Consultation
A free 45 to 60-minute conversation in our Pittsburgh showroom or by video call.
We listen first, ask questions, and start sketching.
Whether you arrive with a Pinterest board or a vague feeling, we'll work with you to clarify what the piece is meant to be.
Stone Selection
We work with you to choose the center stone, which can be a Refined American Diamond, a colored gemstone, or one you already own.
We discuss carat, cut, color, and clarity in plain English, and look at options together until you find one that feels right.
If you are looking for something we don't have in the store, we will source it for you.
Design & 3D CAD Preview
We translate the design into a 3D CAD rendering you can rotate, refine, and approve.
This is the stage where every detail - proportion, prong style, gallery work, metal choice - is locked in.
Nothing is cast until you sign off.
Crafting
Once approved, your design is cast, set, and hand-finished to specification.
Most projects take 3 to 4 weeks total from approval to delivery, depending on stone availability and design complexity.
Delivery & Lifetime Service
Pick up the finished piece in our Pittsburgh showroom or have it shipped insured.
Every Rothschild custom piece comes with complimentary annual cleaning and inspection for as long as you own it.

Once we've chosen a stone and locked in the design, we provide a clear, written quote with no obligation.
Financing is available.
The Stone
The largest variable. Carat weight, cut, color, and clarity all influence cost.
The Metal
Yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum. Each has different cost, weight, and durability characteristics. We'll explain the trade-offs.
The Design
Setting style, gallery work, side-stone count, and finish detail all factor in. Simple solitaires are the most economical; intricate halo or vintage-inspired settings cost more.
Consultations are free, quotes are unhurried, and there's never any obligation to proceed.

Custom design at Diamonds by Rothschild follows five steps.
First, a free 45 to 60 minute consultation, in person or by video.
Second, stone selection from our Refined American Diamonds, our gemstone inventory, or a stone you already own.
Third, the design is rendered in 3D CAD so you can rotate, refine, and approve before any material is cut.
Fourth, the piece is cast, set, and hand-finished to your approved design.
Fifth, delivery, with complimentary annual cleaning and inspection for the life of the piece.

How much does a custom engagement ring cost?
Custom jewelry pricing depends on three variables: the stone(the largest factor, varying by carat, cut, color, and clarity), the metal(gold or platinum), and the design complexity.

Can I design custom jewelry virtually?
Yes. Custom design consultations are available in our downtown Pittsburgh showroom or by video call.
Both options include the same 3D CAD rendering, design refinement, and approval process.
Virtual consultations allow us to serve clients throughout the United States.
What is the lead time for a custom piece?
Most custom projects at Diamonds by Rothschild are completed within 3 to 4 weeks from approval of the final 3D CAD design to delivery.
Timelines may vary based on stone availability, design complexity, and any special metal or finishing requests.
Can I use my own stone or heirloom?
Yes. Custom pieces can be built around a stone you already own, including family heirlooms. Bring it in or send a photo and grading report. We'll evaluate the stone's condition, suggest setting options that complement it, and proceed exactly as we would with one of our own stones.
What can I have custom-made besides engagement rings?
The same custom design process applies to engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants, earrings, and heirloom redesigns. If you can imagine it as a piece of fine jewelry, we can design and craft it.
Can I make changes during the design process?
Yes. The 3D CAD stage is specifically designed for this.
Before any material is cut, you review the rendering and can request changes to the proportions, the prong style, the gallery work, or the overall shape.
Changes after fabrication has begun may incur additional cost, depending on what stage the piece is in.
Can I finance my custom jewelry?
