Wedding Ring Guide
Questions We Hear from Couples
What are the different ways to get a wedding ring at Diamonds by Rothschild?
There are four paths. First, ready-to-wear designer bands from our curated selection, including Lashbrook and other manufacturers. Second, custom design: a fully bespoke wedding ring built around the metal, profile, and detailing you want. Third, semi-mount settings designed to be paired with a diamond of your choice. Fourth, finished bands on display in our Pittsburgh showroom, some of which are not listed online. All four paths include free consultations.
Does Diamonds by Rothschild carry Lashbrook?
Yes. Diamonds by Rothschild is a Lashbrook authorized retailer in Pittsburgh. We carry a curated selection of Lashbrook wedding bands in stock, including pieces in titanium, tantalum, Damascus steel, gold, and platinum, with a range of inlay options. Additional Lashbrook designs can be ordered to specification.
How is the wedding ring traditionally worn?
In most Western traditions, the wedding ring is worn on the ring finger of the left hand, placed on the finger first during the vows so that it sits closer to the heart, with the engagement ring then worn on the outside. Traditions vary by culture and personal preference, and there is no single rule.
Who traditionally buys the wedding bands?
There is no fixed rule. Most often, the couple chooses and purchases the wedding bands together, sometimes treating it as a shared expense, sometimes splitting based on tradition or preference. Family members occasionally contribute. The decision is personal and varies by culture and circumstance.
What karat gold is best for a wedding ring?
The best choice depends on personal preference and lifestyle. 14k gold is more durable due to its higher percentage of alloyed metals, making it well-suited to daily wear.18k gold has a richer color and feel, but is softer and shows more wear over time. Platinum is the most durable common option, but heavier and more expensive. We can help you choose during your consultation.
Can I have a custom wedding ring made?
Yes. The custom design process applies to wedding rings as it does to engagement rings: a free consultation in person or by video, 3D CAD rendering for review and approval, then crafting and delivery. Most custom wedding rings are completed within 3 to 4 weeks.
Do you wear your engagement ring on your wedding day?
Yes. Traditionally, the engagement ring is worn on the wedding day, with the wedding band placed on the finger first during the exchange of vows, so it sits closer to the heart. Some couples temporarily move the engagement ring to the right hand or remove it for the ceremony to make this easier; both are acceptable.
